Buying music is a crucial job for any DJ and you could easily argue that in the digital revolution it is easier and quicker than trawling through record shops.

So where can you (legally) get music from online?

DJ music

As well as all the usual places to buy music, such as HMV or online sites such as Amazon, there are a range of DJ focused music providers. These all offer a variety of different services depending on what you need; some offer music targeted to specific genres or types of remixes.

The main suppliers are:
Mastermix
Promo Only
I Like Music
CD Pool
DMC

Over the years I've used the monthly subscriptions from CD Pool, DMC and Mastermix and found them all to be good suppliers.

For me now, I'm subscribed to Promo Only for all the latest music, buy the crate albums from Mastermix (such as the new Re-Grids which are totally amazing!) and buy any other I need from I Like Music.

One list which I have found quite useful is the Pro Mobile Must Haves, although these are only published every two months alongside the magazine, so if you're looking for more regular updates you'll need to look elsewhere.

If you're lucky enough to get yourself onto a promotional distribution list these can be a great source of music with the record labels sending you music, often free of charge.

If you're wondering what licences you need to play music it's worth reading my previous 'What licence does a mobile DJ need' blog.
