Blog - How big is a disco?

How much space is required is a regular question I get. And it's important when planning any event to consider the amount of space the suppliers require.

Firstly I should point out that every DJ is different so this guide is based on my standard setup.

The main bulk of my setup is my console, which houses the majority of my equipment. It measures 1.2 metres (4ft) wide and 90cms (3ft) deep (that's allowing space for me to stand behind it). This is the main space that I require.

I also need space to put my speakers, but these are more flexible and can be positioned away from the console provided that I can safely run a cable to them from the console. Each speaker requires approximately 60cms by 60cms (2ft by 2ft).

It's also worth bearing in mind my overhead lighting, which extends just over 30cms (1ft) either side of the console if I'm using both sides. Sometimes I'll minimise my lighting so I only need one side.

If you're ever unsure I'm always happy to offer advice on the best place for my equipment to be located, I'd far rather sort this out in advance than on the night when it's too late.
