Blog - Should I look for wedding suppliers on directories?

Posted: Friday 21st October 2022 By: Andrew Broughton | Read Time = 2 mins Views: 864

With many wedding directories available to help you find wedding suppliers, should you use such websites for your wedding planning?

They can be a great way to find wedding suppliers and get in contact. Often they make it easy to find similar suppliers in the same area and allow you to compare services.

However, there is a flip side. Not all directories have every supplier on, so often you'll be looking at a limited pool of suppliers. This can be because the wedding directory charges suppliers to be listed.

Some wedding supplier directories, such as Bark, offer free listings to suppliers but charge them to respond to quote requests. This has the potential to mean that suppliers will choose not to respond or even not list themselves on such sites.

In the mobile DJ sector, such sites are notorious for being a "race to the bottom" where the focus is on the cheapest price rather than focusing on quality. Some sites add fees per booking, meaning that you'll be potentially paying more for your supplier than if you booked direct.

With the growth of social media over the last decade, it's even easier to find wedding suppliers and get recommendations from other people.

In the UK, there are a number of DJ associations that list their members. These include
SEDA
NADJ
AMPdj through their wedding DJA website

So while wedding supplier directories can be useful for your research, I would recommend you also research outside of the directory to make sure you find the wedding suppliers that you really want and not just offer the cheapest quote from a limited pool.
