In recent years people have discovered that they can save money for their wedding reception or party by not booking a DJ and using their own music system.
In theory this is a great idea, load up all your favourite songs onto a playlist and when you're ready for music simply hit the play button. But has the person creating the playlist given any consideration to what other people want to listen and dance to?
As a DJ I never create a playlist in advance, I have lists of suggestions that I pick songs from and adapt to suit the mood. Requests are important, but the advantage that DJs have over a jukebox is we choose when to play requests. I wouldn't choose to play an ABBA track in between 2 chart tracks but wait until I return to a 70s/80s set of music.
A final thought - how much will a sound system cost to hire? Using a hi-fi system will save money but will it be up to the job? Hiring a sound system wouldn't save that much money, my sound system would cost over 250 as a dry-hire package.
